October 31, 2024 min read

Do you remember wanting to get a summer job in Greece when you were younger? Maybe you still do, and the unfulfilled desire haunts you now and then?

What if we told you you could live the Mamma Mia summer experience in Greece all year long? Imagine a never-ending summer job. Working on a Greek island but instead of going home at the end of the season, you stay there. Doesn’t it sound like a dream come true?

Read on to find out how to work in Greece this summer, and any summer after that!

  1. Is it hard to find work in Greece?
  2. Is Greece a good place to work?
  3. Why work in Greece?
  4. Where to work in Greece?
  5. How to work in Greece?
  6. Is Greece good for foreigners?
  7. What jobs are in demand in Greece?
  8. Can I work in Greece if I don't speak Greek?
  9. Can I work in Greece if I only speak English?
  10. How many hours is a workday in Greece?
  11. How much can you earn in Greece?

Is it hard to find work in Greece?

It is not hard to find work in Greece at all! EU citizens can move to Greece without any trouble, and they don’t need a visa to relocate.

Well-known international companies are opening modern branches in Greece and are actively looking for language speakers to fill their brand-new offices. So, finding a job in Greece is becoming easier than ever!

Check out the work opportunities in Greece offered by Teleperformance Greece, especially those in their freshly opened office on Crete.

Is Greece a good place to work?

Is that even a question? Imagine living in a country with the perfect climate, rich history, and mouth-watering cuisine! Add multilingual work opportunities in multinational companies, and Greece becomes the perfect working destination.

The Greeks are also considered a very friendly, kind, and tolerant nation. The Greek culture is incredibly rich, so living in any part of the country will feel like stepping back in time, to the times of ancient kings and myths. At the same time, Greece welcomes innovation, so it offers the perfect blend of tradition and modernism.

Living in Athens on the mainland or in Chania on Crete, you can admire the old town and find yourself in a modern centre within minutes.

International companies based in Greece offer a very inclusive, diverse environment and state-of-the-art premises. So, this Mediterranean country is truly an excellent place to work, full of professional prospects and opportunities to develop your career.

Why work in Greece?

Personally, we think the answer to that question is very obvious, but let us share the top reasons why working in Greece is a great choice.

Would you like to be given the opportunity to work in your native language in another country? In Greece, that is possible! New expat jobs in Greece are popping up every year as more and more international enterprises open branches in this magical country.

Secondly, who wouldn’t want to experience the Mediterranean lifestyle? The Greeks are a very hard-working but relaxed nation. They perform well in the office, but at the same time, they do not worry too much. It is worth to try switching to this slow life model and escape the everyday rush, stress, and rat race we are used to.

You can change your life for the better, especially if you move to one of Greece’s beautiful islands, such as Crete. The Greeks are among the longest-living nations in the world, which is probably the result of their healthy, relaxed lifestyle.

Not to mention, wouldn’t it be wonderful to be able to enjoy sunny weather for the majority of the year? That’s right - the citizens of Greece are graced with approximately 300 sunny days per year!

It sounds like something straight out of a fairytale, doesn’t it? Well, we guarantee that there are many other things you didn’t know about Greece!

Where to work in Greece?

If you are looking for a one-word response, then the answer is: everywhere. However, if we were to be more specific, we highly recommend the capital, Athens, for the international climate and the numerous job opportunities there.

If you are more adventurous, then the Greek islands are definitely the way to go! Ikaria is one of the world’s 5 Blue Zones - places with the longest life expectancy. Crete, in turn, is full of professional opportunities and is known for its rich cultural and historical heritage. Get ahead by starting your research about employment in Crete right now!

How to work in Greece?

As we have already mentioned, finding work in Greece is very easy. All you need to do is go to Europe Language Jobs and choose Greece as your preferred location. We especially recommend checking out Teleperformance Greece - a company with the highest number of attractive jobs for expats in Greece.

In terms of formalities, EU citizens do not need a visa to obtain legal employment in Greece. All you will need to do is to apply for the Certification of Residence if you intend to stay in the country for more than 3 months, and sort out your taxes and medical insurance with the help of your employer. That’s it!

As part of its relocation package, Teleperformance Greece offers all EU citizens assistance with handling the formalities you will be required to take care of once you move to Greece. If you choose them as your employer, you won’t have to worry about the legal side of your relocation process!

Is Greece good for foreigners?

Greece is generally known to be a tolerant country, open to welcoming foreign nationalities. It has been one of the top destinations in Europe among tourists from all over the world for many years now, so the locals have gotten used to the international climate.

But tourists are not the only foreigners you will meet while living in Greece! Due to the increased demand for language speakers and the growth of expat jobs in Greece, people from many different countries have been relocating there more often than ever.

Especially bigger cities such as Athens and Thessaloniki, or islands like Crete, are known for their very international climate. It is also entirely possible to get by speaking English in those places, so knowledge of Greek is not required.

It might; however, be useful to learn the local language - at least the basics. If that is your wish, Teleperformance Greece offers free Greek language classes as part of their relocation and integration support programme when you move from another country to work in one of their offices in Greece. It would truly be a sin to not take advantage of such a helpful opportunity!

What jobs are in demand in Greece?

When thinking about popular jobs in Greece, many tend to skip straight to seasonal summer jobs. It is true that Greece is a popular touristic spot, and many choose it as the ideal destination for summer jobs abroad in services or hospitality. But the belief that seasonal positions are all Greece has to offer is wrong!

Global companies based in Greece run recruitment processes for multiple positions all year long. They are looking for foreign language speakers to work on-site in their modern offices in Athens, Thessaloniki, on Crete, and in other attractive locations.

The top jobs in demand in Greece on our job board right now are in customer service, business consultancy, and technical support.

Can I work in Greece if I don’t speak Greek?

Absolutely! None of the jobs in Greece advertised on our job board requires you to know Greek. It is entirely possible to find a job in Greece where you will only need to speak your native language and English, or any other language you may know. The variety is enormous, so the choice is entirely yours!

The languages in demand in Greece right now are the Nordic languages (Finnish, Norwegian, Swedish, Danish), Dutch, and German. However, on our job board, you will find work opportunities in Greece with Slovak, Czech, Gaelic Irish, Polish, Japanese, Chinese, Latvian, Hungarian, Estonian, Russian, Croatian, Bulgarian, Hebrew, Lithuanian, Italian, Slovenian, Portuguese, and more!

As you can see, there is no need for you to speak Greek to work in Greece, unless you want to! There are plenty of languages to choose from, so you can take your time learning the local one after you relocate.

Can I work in Greece if I only speak English?

The short answer is, yes, you can. You can easily get by speaking English in Greece’s bigger cities. There are likely also many job openings in Greece out there that only require the knowledge of English - especially in the sector of summer jobs. Positions in services and hospitality in touristic hotspots are mostly carried out entirely in English due to the diversity of the clientele.

However, any additional language you know is an advantage! It is not impossible to find a job in Greece if you only speak English, but it will simply be easier if you know more languages.

As you can see on our job board, the jobs in Greece listed there mostly require English plus some other language. Given the broad range of available languages, speaking just one other than English will be absolutely fine!

How many hours is a workday in Greece?

The average workday in Greece follows European standards. It is 8 hours long, starting at 8 or 9 AM and finishing accordingly.

Although the Greeks are attributed the patch of a very relaxed and easy-going nation, they are also hard-working. According to a study by Forbes, they pull off the most working hours during the week in all of Europe!

They exceed the European average of 37.2 hours/week by approximately 5 hours, standing at 42 hours/week. Research by Greek Reporter places them as 4th in the world, preceded by Mexico, Costa Rica, and Korea.

So, don’t expect to slack off at work when moving to this Mediterranean paradise! Your effort will be taken seriously, and you can anticipate seeing tangible results when working in Greece.

It is also worth noting that in the hottest summer months, the lunch break might be slightly exceeded. Greek workers sometimes go home to wait off the highest temperatures mid-day, when being productive in the office is simply impossible, even with the air conditioning running at a full blast. In such cases, your working day can stretch out into the evening once you return to your desk.

However, many global companies are now following the international model of a shorter lunch break and letting their employees go home at a standard hour. In modern offices, lunchtime is kept concise and the concept of taking a mid-day break is becoming obsolete, similar to the Spanish siesta.

How much can you earn in Greece?

Greece is commonly known for salaries adjusted to the lower cost of living. The numbers aren’t looking bad, though! According to World Salaries, the average annual salary in Greece in 2023 is €2296.

If you find a job in Greece in an international company such as Teleperformance Greece, you can also expect attractive benefits alongside your base salary. Depending on the position, they can include:

  • Furnished accommodation

  • Relocation support

  • Bonus schemes

  • Private health insurance

  • Paid training with professionals

  • Up to 2 extra salaries per year

  • Discounts

  • Referral programme

  • Work location at modern, well-located offices

  • Free online Greek language classes

  • Events and fun teambuilding activities

  • A diverse, inclusive environment

There you go! We hope you are now closer to achieving your dream of living a never-ending experience of working a summer job all year round. Greece is the perfect destination for those wanting to combine a relaxed lifestyle with excellent working opportunities.

Relocating to Greece may just be the best decision you make, and you will thank yourself while strolling down the coast, feeling the silky sand beneath your feet, or enjoying a plate of moussaka.
