Although I'm in a hurry to get a job. I felt fit with some job description related to your vacancies, especially in Portugal at Randstad and Pologne. Probably, I missed luck when I applied for a role at Astrea the recruiting agency in Bulgaria. At that time, they putted the hiring process in hold to change the regulation. Anyway, I will be delighted when you get back to me

Thank you for the great content! I would love to know furthermore regarding the job hunt when you are switching career. I am now looking for a position in a designer, trying to change from mediocre office job, but no single company would invite me to an interview to talk about my passion... even though I have masters! Is this because European companies puts more value in "actual achievements" over "academic achievements" that I lack expert experience? Have you had any similar cases before?

Hi Hannah, thanks a lot for your advices . They’re very useful. But I have a question. What to do when you know you have the skills and the qualifications needed for a job abroad but the company or the employer doesn’t provide any kind of help, like sponsoring or relocation package? Actually this is my case and I feel like I’m losing a lot of opportunities because I need sponsorship to move abroad. Im looking forward to hearing from you. Thank you

Dear Hannah, Thank you for the text that you present us. Trying to write a target list of employers I would like to work, I think of universities. I am good at teaching, I have experience, although I have been interested in the field of administration. In that sense, I still consider education as a support to improve my administrative skills, teaching is also learned, so my list of employers would direct it to universities.

Thank you for all the tips. I agree with what you say, although sometimes it is difficult to trust the comments of people since not all of us look for the same thing when applying for a job. What do you think are 3 essential questions that could give you an idea that you are applying to the right company?

Hi Hannah! Thanks for the great advice! Do you think that if we go for a company that is engaged with something outside of our hobbies and interests, we could still be satisfied with the job?

Good evening Hannah! Thanks a lot for these very interesting tips. I had a question on the "digging deeper" idea because I usually adopt this strategy as I believe it is important when applying to make sure you would be suitable. The question is: how much weight should we give to the digging deeper part and how much to making an application way before the closing date of a deadline? I often read under a job vacancy that it is advised to apply way before the closing date and sometimes I "fear" digging too much for this reason.

Finding The Right Company For You

This article is part of the 30 Day Challenge - an event that will prepare you to find a job in 30 days. Sign up here to receive daily content with career advice and answer quiz questions to get a certificate. At the end of the event, we will choose 3 certificate holders who will win a free CV review by an expert from CV Maker!

We know you came here for some career advice, but what if we told you that your professional affairs have a lot in common with those in your personal life? Let us elaborate!

When you are looking for “the one” in terms of relationships, what do you do? Do you go for the first person that comes along or do you do your search for someone that might take you some time to find but happens to be the perfect match?

You feel happy, fulfilled, and valued. You grow together, and you are willing to invest in each other. What’s more, you work to build common trust and respect...

Wait... that sounds a lot like something you would want in your job too, right?

This is why finding the perfect company for you plays a big role in building a career you love! So, let’s check out the steps to get you there!

How to find the right company that will tick all the boxes:

Start with yourself and define the boxes

A brainstorm is a good way to begin! Ask yourself important questions before you even start hunting for a potential employer because as we just illustrated, your job should reflect your personal values and preferences in order to make you feel satisfied in the long run.

Here is some food for thought in the form of self-reflection questions:

  1. What are you passionate about?
  2. What is your personality like?
  3. What are your strengths and weaknesses?
  4. What are you looking for in a job?

1. What are you passionate about?

This could be an interest of yours -- a particular sport you like, an industry you feel connected to, a lifestyle you aspire to, a language or a country you adore, etc.

Whatever that might be, chances are it could help you find the right company for you. We have all heard the saying “Find a job you enjoy doing, and you will never have to work a day in your life.”

Especially nowadays, career opportunities are countless, since almost everything has become lucrative and business-friendly!

If you find it hard to define one particular interest, don’t worry! One way to figure out what you like is to think about what you invest most of your free time in.

What do you listen to, watch, or read most often on a daily basis? Don’t take your curiosity for granted.

Once you start working, this will be your leading strength towards professional growth and success because you will genuinely be motivated to do a good job!

2. What is your personality like?

Questions related to your personality will help you decide on the working environment that suits you the most.

Are you more of an extrovert or an introvert? Does the idea of working in a dynamic atmosphere with perhaps more competition and big-time ventures excite you or does it make you feel miserable? Do you want to be a part of a small-knit community or do you prefer to operate within a fast-changing, large network?

Think about your idea of success! Do you want to build a corporate career and go up the ladder, or do you wish to work in a more flat-type company structure and see an idea develop in front of your eyes in a start-up company setting?

Maybe you have an entrepreneurial personality and you want to set up something on your own; that is completely fine! Begin to contemplate your future by observing what you have and know about yourself in the present.

3. What are your strengths and weaknesses?

Another important topic to ponder is your traits and your flaws - we all have both!

Also, figure out if it would excite you to get better at something you currently consider as your weakness or if you wish to keep on improving at things you are already competent at.

4. What are you looking for in a job?

Of course, this is no question with a short answer and finding the right company means expecting more than just a good salary, benefits, or flexible hours package.

Reflection and evaluation of other important factors such as company values, colleagues, diversity, opportunities to grow, work-life balance, etc. is also essential! Stop for a minute to consider which of these you would appreciate the most in your workforce and try not to make a compromise with your priorities.

Sure, you can skip all the information above and send out multiple job applications. However, as you might already know, it is as difficult to get out of a job you are unhappy in as it is hard getting out of a toxic relationship. Many tend to procrastinate on the decision or wait for the other side to take action, which wastes a lot of time for both parties involved.

Some might hope things will get better on their own… Let’s not go there!

To avoid losing time with the wrong company in the first place, we must know what we are really looking for before we even dive into the idea of it! Just like you are looking for certain characteristics in people, define those for the job of your dreams, and then be proactive!

It’s easier now! Start looking for the perfect company!

Now that you know what you want, make sure to get going!

You can begin with some research on brands and organizations that have ideas, values, products, or services related to your interest, and are fitting with your personality.

Think of companies that you have a positive relationship with or ones that caught your eye with their creativity, uniqueness, customer loyalty, or overall brand image. By now, you already know which industries excite you, so just find the right companies operating within.

The next step would be to make a list of those potential employers and start checking their jobs pages. To get to know them better as an employer, look for company videos on YouTube, keep an eye on their social media for some more employee branding content.

See if you have “mutual friends” - maybe someone from your university already works there! If so, make sure to connect via LinkedIn to ask about their impressions as an employee!

All these actions will help you once you get to the next phase - your application and interview! You will have already made yourself familiar with the company with a deep understanding of its culture and brand. You will have a great competitive advantage over the rest of the candidates because you will make it obvious that your interest is far deeper than just getting a job.

If you decide to follow our advice, you will find yourself as motivated and excited as “preparing and going on a date” with your future job!

Writing a cover letter will be easy coming from your heart and your job interview will most probably be a pleasant time between two parties getting to know something they mutually liked in the first place. Of course, you will be nervous and all that - but most importantly you will feel in the right place at the right time!
